DESCRIPTION:
Seth Thomas Clock Co., Plymouth Hollow, Conn., "Office Calendar- Special Issue" wall clock with a weight driven, 8 day timepiece movement in a rosewood veneered case, with Renaissance revival style gilt, cast composition ornaments on both sides as well as the top and bottom. This clock is the exact clock pictured on page 245 of the reference book "Calendar Clocks" by Tran Duy Ly (1993) which describes the clock as a limited production case design.
CONDITION:
The rosewood veneered door is in excellent condition and has been refinished. The case base is solid maple and is constructed in sections. The calendar mechanism is the patented Mix Brothers movement used in Seth Thomas calendar clocks prior to the R. T. Andrews patented perpetual model becoming available circa 1876. The calendar drum papers appear to be original and darkened with age. The time movement is the 3.5 inch by 6 inch, 8 day model with maintaining power. The weight is original. The time dial has been repainted on the original dial pan. The original painted calendar dial has had restoration involving the company/ location/ patent-dates section of the lower portion where the letters and numbers have been strengthened by hand in a manner not consistent with the original factory style. The calendar hand is a replacement. The hour and minute hands are period but not original to the clock. The case top ornament is missing a small portion on the lower right side. This is a very rare clock.
