DESCRIPTION:
Upson Brothers, Marion, Conn., for J.C. Brown, Bristol, Conn. shelf clock with a spring driven 8 day time and strike brass movement in a stenciled rosewood case. The Upson brothers made cases and obtained movements from various sources.
CONDITION:
The rosewood veneered case with wear to the stenciling on the base has original finish with some veneer loss on the base. The original painted and signed (J.C. Brown) dial has loss along both edges and around the center post. The dial signature has largely faded.The hands appear to be original to the clock. The movement is signed Forestville Mfg. Co., Bristol, Conn.,. The tablets, the lower one with a likeness of J.C. Brown, are original with some fading of the color. The label is Upson Brothers, Marion, Conn.,. The ivory door knob is cracked.
