DESCRIPTION:
"Warranted by L. Curtis", Concord, Mass., 8 day, weight driven brass movement patent or banjo timepiece with signed dial.
CONDITION:
Refinished banded mahogany case in nice condition. The case is early and is a typical Boston style with thin sides to the head and finely made side arms using a pin through the center diamond to attach to the case. Bottom tablet is a replacement. Throat tablet looks original and the throat frame is attached to the case with two screws. The T-bridge movement was originally attached to the case with two through bolts, but is now attached using a center screw through the backplate. Dial is attached to the head with two L-turns. Original hands and old finial. Dial has been repainted and so it is impossible to determine if "Warranted by L. Curtis" signature was original or added later. The signature is not expertly executed, but may have been an attempt to copy a faint, worn signature. This clock's early features makes us think if one was to put a spurious name on the dial it would have been Simon Willard rather than L. Curtis.
