DESCRIPTION:
Unsigned, probably Willard family, Boston, Mass. 8 day, weight driven brass movement patent or banjo timepiece. From the early characteristics of the case and movement this timepiece was likely made by Simon or Aaron Willard.
CONDITION:
Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in an old finish in very nice condition. This a very early clock as the bottom box is dovetailed together. The throat frame has a small piece of mahogany missing at the top right screw hole and a small repair at the left corner. One piece mahogany backboard. Throat frame attaches to the case with four fine thread brass screws. T-bridge step train brass movement attaches to the case with through bolts. Both tablets are nicely done replacements. Original painted dial has some loss at the mountings pins and a couple spots on the edge. Sidearms are replaced. Dial attaches to the case with three L-turns. Original hands. Period winding key.
