DESCRIPTION:
Self Winding Clock Co., New York, a striking, quarter sawn oak hall clock with Neoclassical ornament, squat rectangular base on bracket feet and ogee molding with applied composition acanthus leaf ornament, the trunk with rectangular glazed door, beaded molding, composition urn, and composition egg and dart molding, the bonnet with full turned columns, the sides with stained glass panels and simple Arts and Crafts inspired fret, flanking a square door and supporting an entablature with Grecian ornament including full palmette leaves and scrolling vine, ogee molded cornice with applied acanthus ornament, surmounted by a gallery with reeded pilasters and crest with flower filled cornucopia and trailing ribbon, composite dial with silvered roman numeral chapter ring, matted center, subsidiary silvered seconds chapter, and gilt spandrels, fancy pierced blued steel hands, Seth Thomas movement with Self Winding's rotary modifications, the motor periodically rewinding a small mainspring which drives the movement, and a separate electric movement with countwheel, activating striking and counting the hours on a large gong, polished brass pendulum bob with cylindrical wooden rod.
CONDITION:
case with some loses to composition ornament, a few minor bumps and dings, bonnet with poor quality repair to ornament, cornice molding on the right side of the bonnet with a break, half of front left cap on gallery missing, rear left cap missing, movement complete and escapement functional, striking movement appears to be complete, condition of circuitry unknown.
