DESCRIPTION:
Chelsea Clock Co., Boston, Mass., ship's clock, 8 day, time and ship's strike, spring driven movement with lever escapement in a brass case with hinged bezel, 7.5 inch chapter ring on a metal dial with arabic numerals and blued steel hands, all mounted to a bench-made wood base.
CONDITION:
brass case with a dark, original patina. The bezel catch button has been replaced with an an aluminum piece that works well. The screws holding the movement to the case should be replaced. The dial has very little silver remaining and is covered in a thick coat of degraded lacquer. Thick black finish on hands is worn through in a few place. Signed movement is serial number 178027. Movement ticks and strikes. This is a good candidate for some restoration. This dial with a 7.5 inch chapter ring is what Chelsea often marketed as a 8.5 inch dial, which technically is its total diameter.
