DESCRIPTION:
E. Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., "No. 70 Regulator" wall clock, 8 day, time only, weight driven movement in an oak case with painted metal dial and reverse painted tablet.
CONDITION:
The clock retains a nice original finish that has darkened over time. The wood bezel has a four small dents. Round-headed screws securing the dial do not allow the bezel to latch properly. The lower corners and base of the clock case have been bumped and worn, exposing a small amount of unfinished wood. There are two extra holes below movement seat board, but no extra holes behind the movement, suggesting that the clock once had a thicker seat board that has been replaced. The dial has its original paint with the smallest bit of flaking around the screw mounting holes. A couple of the letters on the dial have been strengthened along their bottom edges. The original hands have a small amount of oxidation. The lower tablet has its original paint with some of the black surround starting to flake off. The pendulum has the simple circular pattern, rather than the more elaborate wavy pattern sometimes seen on this model. The signed nickel-plated movement and weight are both marked "70 ". The case and bezel are stamped "39 ". The pendulum rod is stamped "61" which is also written in pencil behind the dial. The weight cable will need to be reattached. An nice example that shows its age in an attractive manner.
