DESCRIPTION: An unusual European night clock of indeterminate age, in the 18th century style, the ebonized, bracket style case with molded base, glazed door with break arch aperture and cast spandrels, molded top with five finials, the central portion sliding backward to reveal a hole for venting the flame, pewter roman numeral chapter ring with a single blued steel hand, and pierced, roman numeral wandering hour disc, illuminated from the back displaying the approximate time at night, brass break arch plate with pierced, cast mask with floral and foliate ornament, and a stylized tree form aperture to allow a view of the flag attached to the pallet arbor, 30 or 60 hour spring driven brass timepiece movement with verge escapement and bob pendulum
CONDITION: case with repairs, sliding top with 20th century cut separating it from the front molding, exposed wooden surfaces showing varying degrees of oxidation, lacking brad for front door catch, pewter chapter ring cut down from a larger dial, end of hand missing, wandering hour disc crudely pierced, movement will tick briefly.
