DESCRIPTION:
Martin Cheney, Montreal, Canada, "Parliament" style hanging tavern timepiece in an inlaid mahogany veneered case with crotch mahogany veneered door panel, unusual roman numeral engraved silvered brass dial, eight day, weight driven, single train brass movement, stamped "Cheney" in the upper left corner and "137" in the upper right corners
CONDITION:
case in good condition in an old and what appears to be an original finish, crotch mahogany veneered door panel has a repaired crack, dial looks to be original as there are no extra screw holes in the case that might indicate another dial was used, the hands are handmade, bit is difficult to determine if they are original, the minute hand is repaired in two places. This clock is typical of those produced by Cheney, a native of Connecticut, during his later years working at Burlington, Vermont and Montreal, c1835
