DESCRIPTION: Germany, a rare musical hanging dial clock playing multiple tunes on nine glass bells, the reverse painted glass dial with wooden hand painted frame is decorated with family crest "HFR", rampant lions and date 1833 in arch, floral corner spandrels surrounding arabic numeral chapter ring, and two classical figures bearing garlands and a sheath of wheat flanking center arbor, 30 hour, three train, wooden works movement with time, strike on one bell, and music playing on the quarter hours actuated and controlled by 5in (12.6cm) wide wooden cylinder with pins, cows tail pendulum suspended in front of dial above 12
CONDITION: wooden dial surround is original, hands are replaced, dial has a vertical crack through center and a crack in the arch, brass sheathed weights appear to be older replacements, wooden gears are intact, no missing teeth, the cannon pinion that carries the minute hand is newer wood, wooden frame surrounding movement recently painted green. There are 54 rows of pins on the drum and 9 followers, so there is most likely six tunes available. This is an estate clock, purchased in West Berlin in 1957 and the dial was cracked at the time.
